SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) |
|
|
|
A
protocol designed by Netscape
Communications Corporation to provide encrypted communications on the
Internet. SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is layered beneath application protocols such as HTTP,
SMTP, Telnet, and FTP and is layered above the TCP/IP connection
protocol . SSL uses the HTTPS access method usually at 128-bit
encryption (also known as cipher strength). HTTPS is a secure protocol that is simply SSL underneath HTTP. SSL web pages use
"https://" in the address (URL) instead of
"http://". |
